I attend Trinity Christian School in Fairfax, Virginia. I chose to attend TCS because I wanted a challenging, rigorous curriculum mixed with a Biblical worldview. While my teachers are believers, they teach secular ideas and texts. They do not give us all the answers but encourage us to hold up what we’re learning to the Truth of the Bible. I love it!
Since I was young, I’ve always wanted to stretch myself academically. I continue to do that in high school. As a freshman I’m taking all honors courses and have even pushed myself to work hard in advanced math, such as Algebra 2/Trig this year. Next year as a sophomore I plan to take my first AP course: AP European History. Even though I attend a small Christian school, TCS strives to provide many AP courses, which I plan to take full advantage of in the coming years.
My mom, aunt, grandmother, great-aunt, and great-grandmother are all current or former public school teachers. They have instilled in me a love of learning. As my mom always says, “I don’t care about a grade. I care about whether you have mastered the material and grown as a person.” I have taken that to heart. Outside of school I like to teach myself things and read widely. Every summer I strive to read a good number of books. One summer I read 50 books! As I get older and the books get longer, I read fewer than 50, but I still enjoy asking my mom, an English teacher, to make me a list to read for the summer. Last summer I read 10 books. This summer I plan to read more and am excited to read classics like Jane Eyre, Grapes of Wrath, and Their Eyes Were Watching God.
Every chance I get, I like to try to learn something new. When I was just 7 years old, I taught myself to sew, and whenever someone needs help figuring something out, I’m the first to offer my help. I like reading how-to guides or watching YouTube videos to learn how to do something. This website is an example of that. My dad used to use HTML in college, but he says technology has changed and you must keep learning to keep up. I’ve watched videos and talked to my parents about how to create this site. I’ll keep working at making it more professional – I’m learning! Never stop pushing yourself to be better!
